When a professional’s paid plan ends and the account moves to the Free plan, subscriptions to the courses they sell stop renewing. MyFitnessClient first notifies the professional by email and, on the day the subscriptions stop renewing, notifies each client. Nobody loses the period they already paid for, and nothing is refunded. This page shows the deadlines, what the professional can do and what the client sees. For what happens to the rest of the account when the paid plan ends, see Cancel your subscription and understand what happens next.
The timeline
Days are counted from the day the account moves to the Free plan.
- Day 0: the paid plan ends. Course subscriptions keep renewing and clients can still open the courses.
- Day 60: if course subscriptions are still renewing, the professional receives an email with the date they stop renewing.
- Between the notice and that date, nothing changes.
- On the date in the email, which is day 90 or, if the notice went out later, 30 days after the notice: MyFitnessClient cancels in Stripe, at the end of the current period, all of the professional’s course subscriptions that are still renewing. Each client whose access is still running receives an email.
- At the end of the period each client paid for, the subscription ends and the client no longer has access to the course.
The check runs once a day and handles up to 100 professionals at a time, so the notice and the cancellation can arrive one or more days after these dates. The cancellation never happens less than 30 days after the notice to the professional.
If you are the professional
The email arrives with the subject “Your course subscriptions stop renewing on {date}” and says that each client keeps access until the end of the period they already paid for and is notified by email, with your contact. It is the only notice: it does not appear in the dashboard or arrive as a push notification.
- To keep the subscriptions renewing, choose a paid plan before the date in the email. The email’s See plans button opens Settings > Subscription, on the Change Plan tab. With a paid plan, nothing is cancelled and you receive no more notices. See Upgrade your plan and pay for your subscription.
- There is no way to postpone or undo the cancellation.
- After the cancellation, on each course’s Students tab, a client whose subscription is ending has “Ends on {date}” instead of “Until {date}”. In Payments, on the Charges tab, each course subscription still appears only through the payments already received.
- To sell course subscriptions again, you need a plan that includes online payments and a Stripe account ready to receive payments. See Sell a course online: one-time purchase, subscription and price.
If you are a client
- On the day of the cancellation, you receive an email with the subject “Your subscription to {professional}'s course will not renew” (“courses”, if you have more than one). The email shows the date your access to each course ends and how to contact the professional: the contact email on their public profile or, if there is none, the account email.
- You can keep opening the course until the end of the period you already paid for. The subscription is not charged again and nothing is refunded.
- On the website, in Settings > Payments, in the Courses block, the subscription changes from “Renews on” to “Ends on”, with the date. The Manage subscription button still opens subscription management in Stripe, with the invoices and the card. See Manage a course subscription and view receipts.
- The mobile app does not show the subscription status: the email is the notice.
Who receives the client email
- It goes to those whose subscription was Active or Trialing and whose access is still running. Each client receives a single email, with the list of courses and the end date of each one.
- Those who had already cancelled their subscription receive nothing, because the subscription was already going to end.
- Those with an overdue payment also have their subscription ending at the end of the period, but do not receive this email, because Stripe is still trying to collect the open invoice.
- The email is sent only once. If it does not arrive, the subscription stops renewing anyway.
One-time purchase and subscription
This rule only applies to subscriptions. A course bought as a one-time purchase does not renew and keeps its 12 months of guaranteed access from the purchase. See How a course sale works, from purchase to refund.
At the end of the paid period
When the period the client paid for ends, Stripe ends the subscription and the client no longer has access to the course. The course disappears from the client’s course list. When the client opens the course on the website, for example through the course name in Settings > Payments, they see Access paused and the message “Your access to this course is paused. Contact your professional.” See Course does not open, shows as paused or a lesson cannot be completed. In the course’s client list, the professional sees that client with Access expired or, if the client had already finished the course, with Completed.
The client can only subscribe to the course again after the period ends and when the professional sells it online again. See Buy or subscribe to a course.
When subscriptions keep renewing
MyFitnessClient does not notify or cancel anything while one of these situations applies:
- the professional has a paid plan, including a plan granted by MyFitnessClient or a paid plan with an overdue payment, until that plan ends;
- the professional is in the middle of paying for a plan;
- Stripe has already charged a paid plan whose confirmation has not yet reached MyFitnessClient;
- there are no course subscriptions renewing, for example because all clients cancelled them or because the professional only sells courses as a one-time purchase.
If the professional gets a paid plan again
- Before the date in the email, nothing is cancelled and there is no further notice.
- After the cancellation, the cancelled subscriptions do not renew again and there is no button to reactivate them. Each client can subscribe again after the end of the period they paid for.
- If the account later moves to the Free plan again, a new 90-day period starts, with a new notice.
Questions
Do subscriptions stop renewing on the day the plan ends?
No. They stop renewing 90 days after the account moves to the Free plan, and never less than 30 days after the notice to the professional.
Does the client lose money?
No. They keep access until the end of the period they already paid for and are not charged again. Nothing is refunded.
Can I postpone the cancellation?
No. To keep the subscriptions renewing, choose a paid plan before the date in the email.
What if I close my account?
Closing the account follows a different path, with its own notice to clients. See Close your professional account.
