This page brings together the age rules for MyFitnessClient accounts: what section “5. Accounts, age and security” of the Terms of Service says and what the platform actually does.
Age by account type
The Terms ask for more than the platform checks. The platform only uses the client's date of birth.
| Account | What the Terms require | What the platform does |
|---|---|---|
| Professional | 18 or older. | Does not check the age. Professional sign-up does not ask for a date of birth. |
| Client under 13 | Cannot have an account: the client account requires 13 or older. | Rejects the date of birth at sign-up and when the client changes it in the account. |
| Client aged 13 to 15 | Prior authorization from the legal representative, which the client declares they have. Does not send requests through the marketplace or public profiles: only links to a professional through that professional's invitation. | Asks for the parental authorization box, does not show the marketplace and rejects requests to professionals. |
| Client aged 16 or 17 | Prior authorization from the legal representative, until 18. | Asks for nothing. The account has the marketplace. |
| Payments by a minor client | Made or authorized by the legal representative. | Does not check the age of whoever pays. |
Under the Terms, until 18, it is also the legal representative who gives consent to the processing of the client's health data.
Ages 13 to 15: parental authorization
- At client sign-up, on the website and in the app, a date of birth that gives an age from 13 to 15 shows the box “I have authorization from my parents or legal representative to create this account.” Without it ticked, the account is not created: on the website, the Create account button stays disabled; in the app, “Confirm that you have your parents’ authorisation.” appears.
- The same box appears to anyone who creates the account with Google or Apple: on the website, in the sign-up form; in the app, on the Almost done screen.
- Changing the date of birth unticks the box: the authorization applies to the date on the screen.
- In an existing account, anyone who enters or changes the date of birth to an age from 13 to 15 sees the box “I have authorization from my parents or legal representative to have this account.” This happens in My details, in Profile in Settings, and in the app also in the steps to complete your profile. Without the box ticked, the details are not saved and “Confirm that you have your parents' authorization.” appears.
- MyFitnessClient keeps the text of the box you ticked, with the date, the version of the Terms and the IP address, as a record of your declaration.
No marketplace before 16
A client account under 16 only links to a professional through that professional's invitation or link.
- On the website, the client area does not show the marketplace: there is no menu entry, no professional search on Home and no marketplace tutorial.
- In the MyFitnessClient app, Home only asks for the invitation when someone does not have a professional yet: “Scan the QR code or paste the link your professional sent you.”
- When you are signed in, a professional's page, on the public profile or in the client area, does not show the coaching request, and the public profile does not show the contact form either. Instead, a message appears that starts with “You can only send requests to professionals from age 16.” and tells you to ask that professional for an invitation.
- If a request does get sent, for example from a page opened before you changed the date, it is rejected. In the client area, “You can only send requests to professionals from age 16. Ask your professional for an invitation.” appears; on the public profile, the message from the previous point.
- The professional's invitation works from age 13. If you do not have a professional yet, see “You don't have a professional yet”: what to do.
- On the day you turn 16, the marketplace starts to appear, without you having to do anything.
Which date of birth counts
- The platform uses the date of birth saved in the client's account: the one the client enters at sign-up or in My details, or the one written later on the client profile, by the professional, or in the health questionnaire.
- The minimum age of 13 applies to the date the client enters when creating the account, in My details or, in the app, in the steps to complete the profile. The client profile and the health questionnaire the professional fills in accept dates from age 10, because a client coached in person can be younger than the minimum age for an account. In the health questionnaire the client fills in themselves, the website asks for age 13 or older; the app accepts dates from age 10. Such a date does not block the account or the other changes in My details.
What the platform does not verify
- MyFitnessClient does not verify age or authorizations. By accepting the Terms, whoever creates the account declares that they comply with them.
- The MyFitnessClient team can ask for proof of age or of the legal representative's authorization and suspend the account until it receives it. The suspension email states the grounds and how to respond: see “Account inactive.” at sign-in: causes and how to recover the account.
Professionals who coach minors
Under the Terms, a professional who coaches minor clients obtains and keeps the legal representatives' authorizations and does not publish photos or data of minors on the marketplace or in any other public place. The platform only keeps the declaration the client makes in the box: it does not ask for or keep the authorizations on the professional's behalf. On the client profile, the professional sees the date of birth, when there is one. This page summarizes the Terms and is not a substitute for legal advice.
Questions
I'm 15. Can I create an account?
Yes, as a client, with the parental authorization box ticked. Until 16, you link to your professional through their invitation or link. The steps are in Create a professional or client account.
I'm 16 or 17. Do I need authorization?
Under the Terms, yes, until 18. The platform does not show the box at these ages: by accepting the Terms, you declare that you have the authorization.
Do I need to be 18 to be a professional?
Yes, under the Terms. Professional sign-up does not ask for your age, but whoever creates the account declares that they comply with the Terms by accepting them.
Why can't I see the marketplace?
If your account is under 16, the marketplace does not appear: ask your professional for an invitation or their link. If the date of birth on the account is wrong, correct it in My details, as explained in Update your phone, tax ID and personal details.
