Accessibility: keyboard, screen readers, text and motion

Web and appUpdated on

See what the MyFitnessClient web and app do for accessibility: keyboard, screen readers, larger text, reduced motion and known limitations.

MyFitnessClient uses WCAG 2.2, level AA, and the European standard EN 301 549 as its reference. According to the accessibility statement, updated on 29 September 2026, the platform is partially conformant: most of the content meets the standard, but there are known limitations. This page sums up what the web and the app do today, what is still missing and how to tell us about a barrier.

On the web

The table applies to the site on a computer and on a phone, in a browser or in the app installed from it.

TopicWhat the web does
Keyboard: skip the menuAt the start of every page of the professional's dashboard, the client area and the Help Center there is a “Skip to content” link, hidden until it receives focus with the Tab key. When you activate it, focus moves to the main content without going through the menu, and the page address does not change.
Keyboard: windows and listsTab and Shift+Tab move through the controls. Esc closes the open window; with several open, it closes only the top one. In lists you reorder with the “Drag to reorder” handle, the handle receives focus and the arrow keys move the item one position; in those lists, Esc cancels a drag made with the mouse.
Keyboard: client workoutsIn the workout list of the client area, each workout receives focus and opens with Enter or Space.
Keyboard: CalendarIn the professional's and the client's Calendar, each event receives focus and opens with Enter or Space. In the Week view, the header of each day opens that day in the Day view; in the Day view, each hour is a button that the screen reader announces as “Create event 14:00”, when you can create events. Esc closes the date picker. Dragging an event to another day or time does not work with the keyboard or with touch: open the event and change the date and time when you edit it.
Screen reader: CalendarIn the Day and Week views, the screen reader says the name and time of each timed event. The buttons that change the period have spoken names, “Previous” and “Next”.
Screen reader: noticesTemporary notices are announced. Errors and warnings interrupt the screen reader; the others, such as confirmations, are read once it finishes what it is saying. The “You are offline” notice also interrupts; “The response is taking longer than usual”, “Connection restored” and the new version banner wait their turn.
Time to read noticesBy default, a notice stays on screen for 4 seconds and an error for 6. While the mouse pointer is over it, the notice does not disappear. A notice about something loading stays until it finishes.
Reduced motionWith the reduce motion option turned on in the system, most animations and transitions last 0.01 milliseconds and run only once, and smooth page scrolling is turned off. The gray loading blocks stop shimmering and new notifications stop bouncing and sliding. Animations that move or resize elements jump straight to the end; those that only fade keep fading. Some animations do not follow this option yet.
Zooming the pageIn a browser tab, you can zoom the page with the browser zoom. In the app installed from the browser, the page does not zoom with a pinch or a double tap.

In the app

The MyFitnessClient app for iPhone, iPad and Android is the client app. The table describes the latest version of the app.

TopicWhat the app does
VoiceOver and TalkBackIcon-only buttons have a spoken name. Rows with several parts, such as a chat message or a questionnaire, are read in one go. The screen reader says whether a control is selected, on or expanded.
Actions instead of gesturesWhat you do by swiping a row, such as deleting a set from the workout, is also in the screen reader actions. On the workout screen, when you can change the order of the exercises, each exercise has the “Move up” and “Move down” actions, so you do not have to drag.
Side menuOn a phone, the closed side menu is hidden from the screen reader. When it is open, the rest of the screen is hidden and focus moves to the first row of the menu. On iPhone, the VoiceOver escape gesture (a two-finger Z) closes the menu.
NoticesNotices that appear on screen are read aloud. On iPhone and iPad the app itself speaks them, because VoiceOver does not read areas that change on their own; on Android, TalkBack reads them.
Larger textWith Automatic, the app follows the phone's text size: reading text grows up to 2x and titles and controls up to 1.35x, so screens stay usable. There are also four fixed sizes, from Small to Extra large.
Reduced motionWith the reduce motion option turned on in the system, animations stop moving the content: they swap the movement for a short fade or show the end straight away. The rest timer bar keeps moving, because it shows the time left. The side menu appears over the screen, which stays still and dimmed, instead of pushing it. The app changes right away, without you having to reopen it.
Reduced transparencyOn iPhone and iPad, with “Reduce Transparency” turned on, the glass navigation bars become opaque.
TouchButtons and fields accept touches in an area of at least 44 pt on iPhone and iPad and 48 dp on Android, even when they look smaller.
Contrast with the professional's colorsText on your professional's brand color always has a contrast of at least 3:1: when the color chosen for the text is not enough, it switches to white or dark. For text and icons, in light mode, a brand color that does not reach 3:1 against the background darkens until it does; in dark mode, a very dark color lightens up to 4.5:1 against the cards.

In the app, the accessibility statement opens in the browser, from Settings > Legal & privacy > Accessibility.

Known limitations

The statement of 29 September 2026 lists these limitations:

  • In the Android app, PDF documents opened inside the app have no text that screen readers can read.
  • Course lesson videos do not have captions yet.
  • On phones, the app works in portrait orientation only.
  • On iPad, with a mouse or trackpad, the app's controls are not yet highlighted when the pointer moves over them.
  • In the app, text follows the system font size up to 2x for reading text and up to 1.35x for controls (buttons, tabs and fields), so that screens stay usable.

Report a barrier

If you come across an accessibility barrier, or need content in another format, write to [email protected]. If you can, tell us:

  • the page or screen;
  • the device and system;
  • the assistive technology you use, for example VoiceOver, TalkBack or NVDA.

We reply through the same channel.

Questions

Does MyFitnessClient meet WCAG?

Partly. The reference is WCAG 2.2 level AA, and the statement says the platform is partially conformant, with the limitations on this page.

Does the app work with VoiceOver and TalkBack?

Yes. Buttons have spoken names, notices are read aloud, and what you do by swiping a row or dragging an exercise is also in the screen reader actions. PDFs opened inside the Android app are not readable yet.

Can I make the text larger?

In the app, yes: in Settings > Appearance > Text size. See Change the text size in the app. On the web, use the browser zoom.

Are there keyboard shortcuts?

Only a few. In the web Help Center, Ctrl+K opens search. In the workout, questionnaire and course editors of the professional's dashboard, Ctrl+Z undoes and Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes. On a Mac, use Cmd instead of Ctrl. Everything else works with Tab, Enter, Space, Esc and the arrow keys.
