Meal plan limits

For professionalsWebBasic plan or higherUpdated on

Check the meal plan limits in MyFitnessClient Nutrition: names, goals, meals, options, clients and pasting.

These are the limits MyFitnessClient applies today to meal plans, in the Meal Plans tab of the Nutrition page. The screen stops some of them before you save: the field doesn't let you type more, or the save button stays disabled. The others come from the server, which refuses to save with a notice, almost always “Invalid data. Check the fields.”. The limits of the food and meal libraries are in Food and meal library limits.

The plan

WhatLimitWhere you see it
Meal plansNo limit. You create as many as you want.
Plan nameFrom 2 to 100 characters when creating; from 1 to 100 when changing. In New Plan and in Settings, the field doesn't let you type more than 100. In New Plan, Create stays disabled with fewer than 2 characters and, with 1, when you leave the field, “Name too short (minimum 2 characters)” appears. In Settings, with no name, Save stays disabled. In the editor title, an empty name or one with more than 100 characters is refused with “Invalid data. Check the fields.” and the previous name comes back.
DescriptionUp to 2,000 characters. In Settings, the field doesn't let you type more.
Private noteUp to 2,000 characters. In Settings, the field doesn't let you type more.
TagsUp to 500 on a plan. With more, saving is refused with “Invalid data. Check the fields.”.
DurationFrom 1 to 365 days, in whole days. Required in Calendar mode and optional in the others. In Settings, with a value outside the range, or with the field empty in Calendar, Save stays disabled and the field says “Duration can be up to 365 days.” or “Duration must be a valid number greater than 0.”. In weeks, MyFitnessClient converts the value to days and rounds it. In Calendar, Add day and Add week show the same notice when they would go past day 365.

To change these fields, see Change a meal plan's name, cover and duration.

Daily goals

WhatLimitWhere you see it
CaloriesFrom 0 to 10,000 kcal per day, in whole numbers. In Daily Goals, the field ignores the digit that would take it past 10,000, and the minus and plus buttons change 50 kcal at a time.
Protein, carbs and fatFrom 0 to 1,000 g each, in whole numbers. The field ignores the digit that would take it past 1,000.
Goal for a day or a weekThe same limits. In Weekly and Calendar plans, a day's own goal, or a week's own goal in Calendar, has the same maximums.

To set the goals, see Set a plan's daily calorie and macro goals.

Meals and foods

WhatLimitWhere you see it
Meals in a planNo limit. You add as many as you want. Undo has its own cap, in the editor section.
Meal nameUp to 50 characters. On the meal card and in Add Meal, the field doesn't let you type more. A library meal with a longer name is added to the plan truncated to 50 characters. On the card, deleting the name keeps the previous one.
Meal or option noteUp to 5,000 characters. The field doesn't let you type more.
Foods in a meal or an optionUp to 500.In the side panel and in the meal editor, adding a food to a meal or option that already has 500 shows “Limit reached.” and doesn't add it. Any other change that would take it past 500 isn't saved and “Invalid data. Check the fields.” appears.
Options of a mealUp to 50 in addition to the meal itself. With 50, the + on the tabs disappears and Paste option is refused with “Invalid data. Check the fields.”.
Substitutions for a foodNo limit when you add them in the plan. In a meal put together in Custom, in the Add Meal window, up to 20 per food. With 20 on one food, the “+ Add substitution” row disappears; if you choose more than fit, “This food already has 20 substitutions, the maximum.” appears and only the ones that fit are added. When you copy a food, its first 50 substitutions go with it. Pasted into Add Meal, the food keeps the first 20.

How to add each one: Add and organize the meals in a meal plan, Add, edit and remove foods in a meal, Create meal options for the client to choose from and Add substitutions for a food in the plan.

Copy and paste

WhatLimitWhere you see it
What stays copiedOne thing at a time, for 24 hours.Copying something else replaces the previous one. The copy stays in this browser, for the same account and the same workspace. Done and signing out clear the copy.
Days of a Calendar planUp to 70 days per copy and 500 meals per paste. The last pasted day doesn't go past day 365, week 53.With more than 70 days, Copy refuses right away with “You can copy up to 70 days at a time.”. With more than 500 meals, the paste is refused with “Invalid data. Check the fields.”. Past day 365, “Duration can be up to 365 days.” appears and nothing is pasted. Pasting past the end of the plan extends the duration up to the last pasted day, with a notice of the new duration.
Days of a Weekly or Sequential planOne day at a time, with Copy day.It is pasted into the chosen day of a plan in the same mode.
Foods pasted into a mealThe meal holds 500 foods at most.A paste that would take it past 500 is refused with “Invalid data. Check the fields.”.

Days only paste into a plan in the same mode: in another one, the copy bar says, for example, “Only into a calendar plan”. A meal or a food pastes in any mode. The step-by-step instructions are in Copy and paste meals, supplements, questions and lessons.

Clients and plan list

WhatLimitWhere you see it
Clients on a planNo limit; up to 500 in each assignment. With more than 500 chosen at once, the assignment is refused with “Invalid data. Check the fields.” and none of them gets the plan. Assign in several rounds.
Meal plans of a clientOne per workspace.Assigning another plan takes the client off the previous one.
Plans per page10, 25 or 50; starts at 10.In Show, at the bottom of the list.
Deleting plansNo limit on how many at once.MyFitnessClient deletes them in batches of 500.

To assign and delete, see Assign a meal plan to one or more clients and Delete meal plans, one at a time or several at once.

Plan editor

WhatLimitWhere you see it
UndoThe last 50 changes. The history starts over when you open the plan again and after anything Undo can't undo: pasting, changing a meal's options, changing the plan's mode, saving Settings and, in Calendar, copying, clearing, removing or moving days and weeks. Undo saves the whole plan again in one go, so it is refused on a plan with more than 2,000 meals, with more than 50 options in a meal or with more than 50 substitutions on a food. A refused Undo stays in the history.
Food and meal side panelOnly with the window 1024 px wide or more, and outside Calendar mode. You drag the panel's edge to change its width, from 300 px to 760 px, depending on the space in the window.

More about the editor in The meal plan editor: autosave and Undo and in Build a plan with the food and meal side panel.

Shopping list

WhatLimitWhere you see it
Days in the listFrom 1 to 31.In Other, with a number outside that range, “Choose 1 to 31 days.” appears and the list doesn't change.
Lists requested20 per minute per account and 2 being prepared at the same time. From the 21st list in one minute, the error card asks you to wait a moment. With 2 being prepared, the next one is requested again up to 3 times, one second apart, before the card appears.

See Create the shopping list for a meal plan and, if it shows an error, The shopping list shows an error, is empty or has lost your ticks.

When the workspace has more active clients than the subscription allows

While the workspace has more active clients than the subscription allows, meal plans are read-only. MyFitnessClient blocks creating, editing, assigning, pasting and deleting, with the message “You have more active clients than your plan allows. Choose which to keep or upgrade your plan.”. You can still open the plans and the shopping list. To fix it, see You have more active clients than your plan allows.

What Nutrition doesn't have

Nutrition doesn't log the water the client drinks: there's no water counter or water goal in the plan. For that, use a habit, as explained in Nutrition has no water log: use a habit.
