Delete one or more foods from the library

For professionalsWebBasic plan or higherUpdated on

Delete your own foods from the MyFitnessClient food library, one at a time or several at once; plans that already use them keep the values.

Before you start

  • You can only delete the foods in My foods: the ones you created, copied from the Catalog or saved from an online product. The Catalog foods, from MyFitnessClient and the INSA table, can't be deleted.
  • In a team workspace, deleting foods requires the Nutrition > Edit permission; without it, Delete and Select do not appear. The library belongs to the workspace: a food you delete stops appearing for the whole team.
  • If “You have more active clients than your plan allows. Choose which to keep or upgrade your plan.” appears, the deletion doesn't save until you fix it: see You have more active clients than your plan allows.

Steps

To delete a food:

My foods with the ⋮ menu of the second row open, showing Edit and Delete, and the Select button above the list.
  1. In the side menu, select Nutrition.
  2. Select the Food Library tab. On a narrow screen, such as a phone's, the tab is called Foods.
  3. Select the My foods 1 tab. On a narrow screen, the tab is called My.
  4. On the food's row, open the ⋮ menu 2 and select Delete 3. You can also right-click the row.
  5. In the Delete food? window, select Delete 1.
Delete food? window with the warning that the action cannot be undone and the Cancel and Delete buttons.

The window closes, the “Food deleted” notice appears and the food disappears from the list.

Delete several foods at once

My foods with the top circle ticked, the strip with Select all 12 and the bottom bar with 10 selected, Delete and the X.
  • In My foods, at the top of the list, next to the number of foods, select Select. A circle appears on each row.
  • Select the foods you want to delete. The bar at the bottom of the screen shows how many you have marked, for example “3 selected”. On a phone, it shows only the number.
  • To mark all the foods on the page, select the circle at the top of the list; on a narrow screen, Select all on the first row of the list. If there are more pages, “Select all” followed by the total also appears, which marks the foods on every page.
  • To mark the foods on every page straight away, select “Select all” followed by the total, in place of the number of foods, for example “Select all 58”. With a search typed in, a category or subcategory chosen in Filters or the Show favorites only star turned on, only the foods the list shows are marked. Afterwards, in the same place, “All selected” appears with the total; selecting it unmarks everything.
  • In the bar, select Delete. The confirmation window says how many foods you are about to delete, for example “Delete 3 Foods?”, or “Delete All (58)?” when you have marked all the ones in the list. Select Delete to confirm.
  • The “Foods deleted” notice appears and the selection closes.
  • To leave the selection without deleting, select Cancel, where Select was, or the bar's X.

Selecting the foods on every page marks up to 10,000 foods at a time, and MyFitnessClient deletes them in batches of 500.

What happens when you delete

  • The food is erased from the library and is no longer available to add to meal plans and meals. It is also removed from favorites.
  • The meal plans, the meals in the meal library and the clients' logs that already use the food don't change: they keep the name, quantity and values the food had when it was added. See Library foods and meals: what changes in plans.
  • The photo you uploaded for the food stays in the plans and meals that show it. When nothing else uses it, it is erased and stops taking up storage space.
  • A deleted food can't be recovered: the confirmation warns “This action cannot be undone. The food will be permanently removed.”.

Shortcuts

  • Right-clicking a row in My foods opens the same menu as the ⋮: Edit and, last, Delete. In the Catalog, the rows have no menu.
  • Selecting a row opens the food's detail view; there, Delete opens the same Delete food? window.
  • On a computer, holding Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) while you select a row turns on selection and marks that food.
  • On a narrow touch screen, such as a phone's, a long press of half a second on a food turns on selection and marks that food.
  • On a narrow touch screen, swiping the row to the left shows a red button with a trash can, which opens the same Delete food? window.

Common problems

I can't see “Delete” or the ⋮ menu

Foods in the Catalog can't be deleted: only those in My foods. In a team workspace, the ⋮ menu, right-click, the Delete in the detail view and Select only appear for those with the Nutrition > Edit permission: ask the workspace owner for it. With selection turned on, the ⋮ menu doesn't appear either: select Cancel to leave it.

An error message appears when deleting

The food was not deleted. If you see “Connection error.”, check your internet connection and try again. If you see “Server error.”, wait a moment and try again. If you see “Not found.”, the food had already been deleted, for example in another browser tab or by someone else on the team: reload the page.

Deleting several foods stopped partway

One of the batches of 500 failed after others had already been deleted. The notice says how many were deleted and how many are left, for example “Deleted 500. The operation stopped with 120 left. Try again.”. The foods that are left stay marked and the ones already deleted leave the selection: select Delete in the bar again to delete the remaining ones.

I deleted a food by mistake

The food can't be recovered. The meal plans and meals that already used it keep its name and values. To use it again, create it again: see Create or edit a custom food. If it was a copy of a Catalog food, copy it again: see Copy a catalog food to your foods.

If this did not solve it, contact support with the food's name, the exact message and the approximate time.
