Supplement plan limits and calculation rules

For professionalsWebBasic plan or higherUpdated on

In the MyFitnessClient Supplements module, see the limits, how the client's day and history are calculated, the vocabulary and what the platform does not do.

The numbers, rules and words on this page are the ones the Supplements module applies today in the plan, the library and the client's profile. To build a plan step by step, see Create a supplement plan for your clients and Set a supplement's amount, frequency and doses.

Assigning is covered in Assign a supplement plan to clients, and logging on the client's behalf in Log a client's supplement doses and view the history.

Team permissions

In a team workspace, each action requires the member to have a permission. The workspace owner has all of them.

What you doPermission
Open Supplements, see the plan list and the library, open a plan, Preview and mark favoritesSupplements > View
Create plan, New supplement and Copy to My LibrarySupplements > Create
Duplicate a planSupplements > View and Create
Change a plan (name, Settings, supplements, periods and doses), copy and paste a supplement, delete plans, assign, remove and change a client's dates, and edit or delete your supplementsSupplements > Edit
Create personal copy of a plan for a client, in their profileSupplements > Create and Edit
See the Supplements tab in a client's profileSupplements > View
See a client's day, week, history and timesClients > View
Mark and unmark doses for a client, change a day's amount, change the times and delete a day's logsClients > Create

The module only opens if the workspace owner's plan includes Supplements, for every member. A member who only coaches the clients assigned to them only sees and assigns those clients. While the workspace has more active clients than the plan allows, you cannot save anything in Supplements, not even favorites, and “You have more active clients than your plan allows. Choose which to keep or upgrade your plan.” appears. Reading still works. To fix it, see You have more active clients than your plan allows.

How the client's day is calculated

The client's Supplements page, the Supplements tab of the profile, the history and the reminders use the same calculation. The rules apply in this order:

RuleHow it works
Which day it isThe day in the client's time zone, never yours. Their day changes at their midnight.
Which plans countThe supplement plans assigned to the client by a professional with whom they have active coaching, except deleted ones. Each client has one plan from you at a time: assigning another one replaces the previous one. If what the client's plan with you includes leaves Supplements out, they do not get the day or the reminders.
DatesBefore the Start and after the End, the plan does not appear, and neither do the purchase links. The Start day and the End day count.
Plan dayThe Start day is day 1. A supplement you add to a plan the client has already started counts, for that client, from the day it was added, and starts at period 1. Anyone who starts the plan later follows it from day 1.
PeriodPeriods run back to back: the first starts on day 1 and each one on the day after the previous one ends. After the last period ends, the last one continues. With Repeat the sequence, period 1 comes back after the last one. In a Washout period, the supplement has no doses on those days.
FrequencyEvery day: on all of them. Days of the week: only on the chosen ones. Every N days: on day 1 and every N days after that. N days per week: the supplement appears every day under Weekly goal, and a day counts when all the doses of that day are marked. As needed: it never goes into the day and stays under As needed. Weekly, which only exists in old plans: on the chosen days of the week or, without days, every 7 days counting from day 1.
AmountThe amount of each dose, in the period's unit. Per kg of body weight: the amount times the client's latest weight, from an assessment or a check-in, rounded to the nearest ten from 100 upwards, to the nearest whole number between 10 and 100 and to one decimal place under 10. Without a weight, it appears per kg, for example “3 mg/kg”, and the dose cannot be marked. Between minimum and maximum: the range appears. Per hour of exercise: it appears with “/h”, with no calculation. If someone changed a day's amount, that day's amount applies, and a per-kg dose can be marked even without a weight.
Moments and timesEach dose belongs to a moment of the day. The times come from the client's five times: wake up, breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. Specific time uses the time written in the dose. With a meal, With the largest meal, Any time and Split throughout the day show no time. The training moments take the time from the workout done that day, the scheduled time or the usual training time, in this order, and without any of them they have no time. The usual time does not count on a day known to be a rest day. Doses of the same moment and with the same window appear together, in order of time.
Day typeTraining days only and Rest days only are labels: the dose appears every day. The day type only decides the reminders, and only when it is known whether the day is a training day.

The plan preview uses the same rules without a client: day 1 is today, the times are the defaults (07:00, 08:00, 13:00, 20:00 and 23:00) and a per-kg dose appears per kg. The 17 moments, with their times and windows, are in Set a supplement's amount, frequency and doses.

How the history counts

The client's history, in the Supplement history card and on the full page, counts like this:

  • Each day shows all the daily doses the plan asks for on that day. The marked ones appear as Taken and the others as Not taken: here, “not taken” means “not logged”.
  • Doses under As needed and under N days per week are not part of the doses asked for. If someone marks them, they appear on that day as taken.
  • The doses asked for on each day are counted with the plan as it is today. If you add, change or remove doses, the days that have passed change too.
  • Logs of doses the plan no longer asks for, for example after you remove the plan or a supplement, stay there, with the name and amount they had when they were marked.
  • The amount of each dose is that day's: if someone changed it for that day only, the changed amount appears.
  • The days go from the start of the plan, or from the first log if it is earlier, up to the client's current day. Only days with doses asked for or with some log appear.
  • The percentage in the Doses taken chart divides the doses taken by all the doses the history shows over that time range.
  • Deleting a day's logs sets that day's doses back to Not taken.
  • After the coaching ends, you only see the history up to the day it ended.

What MyFitnessClient does and does not do

  • It stores the plan you write and shows it to the client. It does not warn you when a dose goes over a limit and does not check interactions with medicines or with other supplements.
  • The usual doses in the library are only the value a supplement comes into the plan with. You change whatever you want.
  • Max per dose, Usage note and Anti-doping note appear as text in the supplement's details. They do not trigger warnings or block anything.
  • The Anti-doping note is the text you write. MyFitnessClient does not check or certify any product.
  • The client does not have to accept anything to log their doses.
  • MyFitnessClient does not sell supplements. The Purchase link opens the page you wrote, and the client reads “Purchases take place at the store.”.

Not available yet:

  • counting supplements in the day's calories and macros, in Nutrition;
  • stock tracking or a reminder to buy again;
  • a notification for you when a client leaves doses unmarked: reminders only go to the client, and you see the doses in the history;
  • scanning a supplement's barcode.

Old options that can no longer be edited

In old plans, a dose can have options that the editor no longer shows or changes: a food condition (With food, On an empty stomach, With fat, With vitamin C or With carbs), a cut-off time (Never after), a window or an offset in minutes. The food condition and the cut-off time appear as a label under the dose and in the supplement's details. The window and the offset still change the moment's times, and the offset appears in the supplement's details after the moment. These options carry over to the copy when you duplicate the plan, copy and paste the supplement, use Undo or add a period, which copies the doses of the previous one. A new dose, added with Add dose, comes without them.
