My area sends you two reminders: the meal reminder, at the time of each meal in your meal plan, and the habit reminder, at the time you chose in the habit. They arrive as push notifications in each browser where you have Push turned on, on a computer or a phone. The mobile app is for clients only and does not receive them. See “This app is exclusively for clients”: what to do as a professional.
When a reminder does not arrive, there are two cases: the reminder was not sent, because a condition was missing, or it was sent and the push notification did not appear on this device. The bell helps you tell the two apart.
First, check whether the reminder is in the bell
The bell keeps your unread notifications. On a computer, it is at the bottom of the side menu, next to your name. On a phone, it is at the top of the screen.
- If the reminder is in the bell, it was sent at the right time and no browser received the push notification. In the bell, the meal reminder has the title “Meal at” with the time, and the habit reminder has the name of the habit. Follow the steps in “Turn on Push in this browser”.
- If the reminder is not in the bell, it was not sent, or it was sent as a push notification to a browser where you have Push turned on. First check the conditions for each reminder, in the next two sections, and then Push.
- A reminder you have already read is not in the bell either. A habit reminder leaves the bell when you mark that habit as completed that day, and reminders older than 72 hours are deleted.
The meal reminder was not sent
The meal reminder is sent once per meal per day, between 2 minutes before and 2 minutes after the meal time. The push notification has the title “Meal at” with the time and, in the text, the name of the meal.
| Cause | What to do |
|---|---|
| You do not have an active meal plan in My area: the Nutrition tab shows “No active plan”. | Select Choose plan and activate one of your meal plans. |
| The meal has no time: the meal header does not show any time. | In the meal's ⋮ menu, select Edit meal, choose the Time (optional) and select Save. This time applies to that day only. For every day, set the meal time in the meal plan. |
| The meal is not part of the plan: you added it to the day yourself. | Nothing: only the meals of the plan have a reminder. |
| You have already marked the meal as eaten, or you deleted it from that day. | Nothing: the reminder only tells you about meals you have not eaten yet. |
| You set or changed the time when it was already more than 2 minutes in the past, or the reminder for that meal had already been sent that day. | That day, the reminder for that meal is no longer sent. |
| The Reminders notification type is turned off. | In Settings > Notifications, turn on Reminders. The switch has the description “Reminders for events and your meals”. |
| Your plan no longer includes My area: when you open it, the introduction page appears with the plan that includes it. | Switch to a plan that includes My area. The reminders are sent again. |
If the plan has ended, see No active program: the program or plan does not appear or has ended. To give a meal a time on every day, see Add and organize the meals in a meal plan. To mark what you ate, see Log your meals for the day.
The habit reminder was not sent
The habit reminder is sent once per habit per day, at the chosen time or up to 15 minutes later. The push notification has the title “Habit to check off” and, in the text, the reminder message. Without a message, the text is the habit description and, without a description, “You haven't checked off this habit today.”
| Cause | What to do |
|---|---|
| The habit does not have Reminder turned on. | In My area, on the Habits tab, open the habit's ⋮ menu and select Edit habit. Turn on Reminder, choose the time and select Save Changes. |
| The habit is paused, in the Paused section. | In the habit's ⋮ menu, select Resume habit. |
| The habit is a template from the Habits page of the dashboard, and not a habit of My area. | Create the habit in My area, on the Habits tab. Templates do not send reminders. |
| You have already completed the habit that day or, in a habit with a weekly goal, the goal for the week is already met. | Nothing: the reminder only tells you about what is still missing. |
| The habit is set for specific days and today is not one of the chosen days. | Nothing: the reminder comes back on the next chosen day. |
| The habit has ended or has not started yet, in the Ended or not started yet section. | In the habit's ⋮ menu, select Edit habit and change the Duration. |
| You turned on the reminder, or changed the time, more than 15 minutes after the chosen time, or the reminder for that habit had already been sent that day. | That day, the reminder for that habit is no longer sent. |
| Your plan no longer includes My area: when you open it, the introduction page appears with the plan that includes it. | Switch to a plan that includes My area. The reminders are sent again. |
The dashboard Settings do not have a switch for habit reminders. To stop receiving the reminder of a habit, turn off Reminder in that habit.
Turn on Push in this browser
Push is set per browser. Follow these steps in the browser where you want to receive the reminders. If you do not know where Settings is, see Settings menu: where to find each option.
- Open Settings.
- Select Notifications.
- Turn on Push.
- If the browser asks whether it can show notifications, accept.
- In Notification Types, check that Reminders is turned on.
- Optional: repeat these steps in other browsers. Turning off Push in one browser does not turn it off in the others.
With Push turned on, the next reminders reach this browser. If you turn on Reminders before Push, the window “To enable reminders, you need to enable Push notifications on this device. Do you want to continue?” opens: select Enable to turn on both.
Push does not turn on, or it is on and the reminder does not appear
| Cause | How to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The browser blocked notifications from the site. | When you turn on Push, “Notifications are blocked on this device. Enable them in your browser settings.” appears. When you turn on Reminders, “Notifications are blocked. To receive reminders, enable them in your browser settings.” appears. | Allow notifications from the site in your browser settings, reload the page and turn on Push. |
| You closed the browser's question without answering. | The browser asked whether it could show notifications, the Push switch did not stay on and no message appeared. | Turn on Push again and accept the browser's question. |
| The browser does not receive push notifications. | The Push switch does not stay on, the browser asks nothing and no message appears. On iPhone and iPad, Safari only receives push notifications with MyFitnessClient installed on the home screen. | On iPhone or iPad, add MyFitnessClient to the home screen, open it from that icon and turn on Push there. On another device, try another browser. |
| The browser could not enable push notifications. | When you turn on Push, “An unknown error occurred while enabling notifications.” or “Server error: Push notification keys are not configured. Contact support.” appears. | Reload the page and turn on Push again. If the message comes back, contact support. |
| The session in that browser has ended. | Signing out in a browser turns off push notifications for that browser. Changing or resetting your password, or confirming a new email, turns them off in all browsers. | Sign in again. With the browser's permission already given, push notifications turn back on by themselves. If Push is still off, turn it on. |
| The device was off or had no connection. | The push notification of a reminder waits for the device for 1 hour. After that, it no longer appears, and it does not stay in the bell either. | Nothing: open My area to see what is still missing that day. |
| You have not opened MyFitnessClient in that browser for more than 90 days. | After 90 days without opening MyFitnessClient in a browser, push notifications for that browser stop working. | Open MyFitnessClient in that browser while signed in. |
| The device silences notifications. | Notifications from other sites and other apps do not appear either, for example with a Do Not Disturb mode active. | Turn that mode off, or allow the browser's notifications in the device settings. |
The reminder arrives at the wrong time
The time of both reminders is counted in the time zone saved in your account. The site updates that time zone to the device's time zone when you open MyFitnessClient while signed in. After you change time zone, open the dashboard: the next reminders are sent at the time of the new time zone.
What My area does not notify you about
My area only has these two reminders. You do not receive:
- a notification when your training program or your meal plan ends;
- workout reminders or check-in reminders;
- the morning notification with the habits still to check off, which is for clients only.
If this did not solve it
Contact support, as described in Contact Support and create a request. Include:
- the name of the meal or habit and the time set;
- the day and time the reminder should have arrived;
- the device and the browser where you expected it;
- whether the reminder appeared in the bell;
- a screenshot of Settings > Notifications.
