When you select Create Exercise or Save Changes, MyFitnessClient first uploads the new files (the image, the audio and the gallery's videos or images) and only then saves the exercise. If an upload fails or the server refuses a value, the exercise isn't created or changed, the window stays open with what you filled in, and a notification appears with the message. The notification disappears by itself after a few seconds.
Read the message and save again
To find out what failed and save the exercise:
- In the New Exercise or Edit Exercise window, select Create Exercise or Save Changes and read the notification that appears.
- Find the message in the sections of this article and fix what it points to.
- Select Create Exercise again for a new exercise, or Save Changes for an exercise you're editing.
The window closes and “Exercise created” or “Exercise updated” appears. Each attempt uploads the files you added again. With large videos the upload takes a while: wait while the button shows it is loading. During the upload, a card on the screen shows the progress of the files.
“Invalid data. Check the fields.”
The server refused a value and the message doesn't say which one. If any one of these points fails, the exercise isn't saved. Check them one by one.
| What to check | Rule | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Exercise Name, on the General tab | It must have between 2 and 150 characters, not counting the spaces at the start and at the end. The save button is only disabled when the name is empty, and Save and leave, in the “Save before leaving?” prompt, tries to save even without a name. | Type a name with 2 to 150 characters. |
| Description / Instructions, on the General tab | 5000 characters at most. The counter under the field turns red when you go over the limit, but the screen still lets you save. | Shorten the text until the counter shows 5000 or less. |
| The Translations tab (Languages on a narrow screen) | In each language, the name has at most 150 characters and the description 5000. | Shorten the name or the description in that language. |
| The video links in Exercise media, on the Media tab | Only https:// links from YouTube and Vimeo are accepted, with 500 characters at most. The screen accepts any address and only the server refuses it, when you save. | Remove the refused link from the gallery with that item's trash can icon, and see the “Accepted video links” section. |
| Videos uploaded from your device | MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, 3GP and MKV videos are accepted. Another format, for example AVI or WMV, is refused with this message. | Convert the video to MP4 and upload it again. |
Other messages when saving
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “This feature is not included in the current plan.” | The plan of the workspace you're working in doesn't include file uploads, which are needed for the image, the audio and the videos or images uploaded from your device. The exercise audio also requires audio messages. When the plan includes them, they appear in the subscription's “Included features” list under the names “File uploads” and “Audio messages in chat”. | Take the files you added out of the form and save: the name, the instructions, the muscles, the equipment and the YouTube and Vimeo links don't need file uploads. To use files, change plans. In a team, the owner's plan is the one that counts. |
| “You have reached your plan storage limit.” | The file doesn't fit in the storage space your plan has left. | Free up space or change plans. For a video, you can use a YouTube or Vimeo link, which takes up no space. |
| “The team's file storage is full. We've let the team owner know.” | You're a member of a team and the owner's storage is full. The owner is notified. | Ask the team owner to free up space or change plans. |
| “The file upload stopped partway. Check your connection and try again.” | The connection failed while a file was uploading. Each file is tried up to 3 times before the message appears. | Check your internet connection and save again. |
| “Too many requests. Wait a moment.” | You uploaded many files in a short time, for example by saving several times in a row. The limit is 30 upload requests per minute and each file uses 2. | Wait a minute and save again. |
| “You don't have permission to do this in this team.” | You're in a team's workspace and you're missing the action the button requires in the Workouts area. | See the “Permissions in a team” section. |
| “You have more active clients than your plan allows. Choose which to keep or upgrade your plan.” | Your account, or the team you're working in, has more active clients than the plan allows. While that's the case, you can't create, edit, copy or delete exercises, or upload files. | Choose which clients stay active or change plans. In a team, the owner sorts it out. |
| “Not found.” | You were editing an exercise that was deleted in the meantime, in another browser window or by another team member. | Close the window and reload the page. If you still need the exercise, create it again. |
| “Server error.” | The server failed to save. | Wait a moment and save again. |
| “Connection error.” or “The request took too long.” | The internet connection failed, or the save request took more than 45 seconds. | Check your connection. For a new exercise, first look in My Exercises (Mine on a narrow screen) to see whether it was created, so you don't create it twice, and only then save again. |
| “This device can't read this photo (HEIC format). Convert it to JPEG and send it again.” | One of the images is a HEIC or HEIF photo that neither the browser nor MyFitnessClient can convert. The exercise isn't saved. | Convert the photo to JPG or PNG, choose it again and save. |
| “An error occurred” | An error the page can't explain. | Save again. If it keeps happening, contact support with the time it happened. |
To free up space, see “Storage limit exceeded”: how to free up space. For the client limit, see You have more active clients than your plan allows. To find out what your plan includes, see View your plan, what it includes and how much you use. The other file upload messages are in Can't upload or attach a file.
Messages before saving
These messages appear when you open the exercise, choose a file or add a link. The three audio messages are written in red under the Record and Upload buttons, on the Media tab, and the one about the maximum number of media is written in the gallery. The others appear in a notification.
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Couldn't open the exercise. Try again.” | When editing, the exercise's data didn't load. The window closes so that you don't save empty fields over the existing ones. | Open the exercise again. |
| “Invalid link.” | The text in the link field isn't a complete address. The usual case is a missing https:// at the start. | Copy the video's full address and paste it again. |
| “File too large (2,100MB). Maximum: 2048MB.” | The image or the video is larger than 2048 MB (2 GB). The first number is the size of your file. | Compress the file. For a video, you can publish it on YouTube or Vimeo and use the link. |
| “Invalid audio file.” | The file you chose in Upload isn't an audio file. | Choose an audio file, for example MP3 or M4A. |
| “Audio too large (max 2 GB).” | The audio file is larger than 2 GB. | Choose a smaller file. |
| “No microphone access.” | The browser didn't give access to the microphone when you selected Record. The permission was denied or no microphone is available. | Choose an audio file in Upload. To record, allow the microphone for the site in the browser settings and select Record again. |
| “Maximum of 6 media per exercise.” | The gallery already has 6 items. The sentence appears in place of the upload area and the link field. If you add more files in one go, the exercise keeps only the first 6. | Remove an item to add another. |
The button doesn't respond or no message appears
| Symptom | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Create Exercise or Save Changes is disabled. | Exercise Name is empty or only has spaces. When editing, the button is also disabled while the exercise's data loads. | Type the name, or wait for the data to load. |
| You select the button, the form opens the Media tab and the browser shows a message of its own next to the link field. | The link field has text that isn't a complete address. The browser doesn't submit the form while that text is there. With any invalid field on another tab, the form opens that tab and shows the message next to the field. | Clear the text in the link field, or complete the address and select the + button. |
| You saved and the video link wasn't kept in the exercise. | The link only goes into the gallery when you select the + button next to the field. An address left in the field isn't saved. | Edit the exercise, paste the link, select + and save. |
| You dragged a file to the gallery and it doesn't appear. | The gallery only accepts videos and images. Other files are ignored without any message. | Use a video or an image. |
Accepted video links
- The address must start with
https://. Anhttp://address is accepted on the screen and refused when you save. - YouTube:
youtube.com,www.youtube.com,youtu.be,m.youtube.comandwww.youtube-nocookie.com. Use the link of the video itself or of the Short, not the link of a playlist or of a channel. - Vimeo:
vimeo.com,www.vimeo.comandplayer.vimeo.com. - Google Drive, Dropbox, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and other sites aren't accepted. Download the video and upload the file.
- An image can't be added by link. Upload the file.
Under the link field, a line may appear saying whether a YouTube video plays inside the app. It's informational only: even in red, it doesn't stop you from saving.
Permissions in a team
In a team's workspace, each button requires an action from the Workouts area. The screen shows the buttons to every member who sees the library. To anyone who doesn't have the action, the server replies “You don't have permission to do this in this team.”
| What you want to do | Action you need in Workouts |
|---|---|
| See the library and open an exercise | View. Without it, “No permission to access” appears instead of the library. |
| New and Copy to My Library | Create |
| Edit and Delete | Edit. There is no separate action for deleting exercises. |
| Upload an exercise's image, audio and videos | Create or Edit. Anyone who has Manage in the Materials area can too. |
To see your permissions, open Team and look for “My permissions”. Only the team owner can change them. See “No permission to access” and menu items missing for a member.
If this did not solve it
Contact support with the exact message, the time you tried to save and the exercise's name. If the problem is with a file or a link, add the file's type and size or the link's address.
