This happens when the server refuses an action on a course: publishing, saving a lesson, changing the structure, unpublishing, deleting, changing the sales settings or managing clients. The message appears in a temporary notice, in a red banner under the course bar, in a banner at the top of the Lessons tab or in the status bar at the bottom of the lesson editor. Look for the exact text you see in the tables.
Plan and account
These messages can appear in any action that changes a course or its clients.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “This feature is not available on your plan.” | Your plan no longer includes Courses. Courses switch to read-only mode and the server refuses to create, edit and publish courses and to enroll clients. | Switch to a plan that includes Courses. Without it, you can still view, unpublish and delete courses, and pause or remove clients' access. |
| “Student management is locked while the account is frozen.” or “You have more active clients than your plan allows. Choose which to keep or upgrade your plan.” | The account is frozen: you have more active clients than your plan allows. Courses switch to read-only mode. Both messages can appear at the same time, in separate notices. | Choose which clients stay active or switch to a plan with more seats. |
To understand what your plan includes, see Feature locked by your plan: what it means. For a frozen account, see You have more active clients than your plan allows.
When publishing
When you select Publish or Publish changes, the server checks the course and, if something is missing, says what in a red banner under the course bar. If you published from the menu of a card in the course list, the same sentence appears in a notice. The banner disappears when you change something in the lessons.
These sentences come from the server in your account's language, which may not be the website's, and they call “section” what the screen calls a module. The server checks in this order and shows only the first problem it finds, with the names of up to 3 lessons or modules and, when there are more, “and … more” with the number. After you fix it, publish again: the next problem may appear.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Add at least one module before publishing” | The course has no modules. | On the Lessons tab, select New module and add at least one lesson with Add lesson. |
| “This module has no lessons: "…". Add a lesson or delete it before publishing.” or, with several, “These modules have no lessons: …” | One or more modules have no lessons. | Add a lesson to each module named or delete the module. |
| “Quizzes and milestones cannot be published yet” | The course has items of an old type, quiz or milestone, that can no longer be created and only exist in old courses. | Delete those items in the Structure column and publish again. |
| “This lesson is empty: "…". Add content or delete it before publishing.” or, with several, “These lessons are empty: …” | A lesson has no description and no blocks. | Write a short description or add a block with Add block, or delete the lesson. |
| “This lesson has unfinished content: "…". It has an image block with no file. Fill it in or remove it before publishing.” or, with several, “These lessons have unfinished content: … The first one has …” | A block is not filled in and the sentence says which: heading with no text, video with no file or link, image with no file, file with no attachment, audio with no file, link with no address, button with no text or address, checklist with unfilled items, or a workout, diet, habit or form block with nothing selected. Text, callout and divider blocks can stay empty. | Fill in the block named or remove it. |
| “This lesson has a file problem: "…".” followed by the reason: “The video points at an address that is not YouTube or Vimeo. Use the "Import video" button to bring it into the platform, or replace it with a normal YouTube/Vimeo link.”, “The file is not stored on the platform. Upload it again in the block.” or “The file does not belong to this account. Upload it again in the block.” | A Video block points to a site that is not YouTube or Vimeo, or a file in the block is not stored on the platform or was uploaded by another account. | For the video, use External video and Import video, or replace it with the normal link in YouTube / Vimeo. For a file, upload it again in the block. |
| “Some changes were not saved. Fix the error or reload the builder before publishing.” | A change to the lessons was not saved and is not on the server yet. | In the lesson status bar, select Try again. If the message continues, reload the page. |
| “Could not publish” | The server refused without a known reason. | Try again. If it continues, contact support. |
When saving a lesson
Lessons save on their own. When a save fails, the status bar at the bottom of the lesson editor shows “Could not save”, followed by the reason, and the Try again button. While the error is showing, the change is not saved: Try again sends it again.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “This video link is not supported. Use a normal YouTube or Vimeo address (live and playlist links do not work), or upload the file with "Import video".” | In a Video block in YouTube / Vimeo, the address is not a normal YouTube or Vimeo video, for example a live stream, a playlist or another site. | Paste the normal address of the video. For a video from another site, use External video and Import video. |
| “This file is not stored on the platform. Upload it again in the block.” | The file you put in the block is not in MyFitnessClient storage. | Upload the file again in the block. |
| “This file does not belong to your account. Upload it again in the block.” | The file you put in the block was uploaded by another account. | Upload the file again in the block. |
| “Some fields are missing or have invalid values.” | A value in the lesson is over the limits, for example a title with more than 200 characters, a description with more than 5000, more than 300 blocks in the lesson or more than 200 items in a checklist. | Shorten the text or split the content across two lessons. |
| “Could not save the lesson changes.” | The save failed with no specific reason. | Select Try again. If it continues, follow the section If this did not solve it, at the end of this page. |
| “The title cannot be empty. The last saved title is kept” | You deleted the lesson title. It is a warning: the previous title stays saved. | Write a title. |
In the lesson builder
These messages appear in a banner at the top of the Lessons tab. When renaming, deleting or reordering fails, the builder loads the course again and shows what is saved on the server. When renaming, deleting, reordering, duplicating, pasting or undoing, if the server gives a known reason, the banner shows that reason, for example “Server error.” or “Invalid data. Check the fields.” when a module name is left empty, instead of the sentence in the table.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Could not create the module.” or “Could not create the lesson.” | The new module or lesson was not created on the server and disappears from the list. It also appears when duplicating a module or a lesson fails. | Try again. |
| “Could not save the module name.” | The new module name was not saved. | Type the name again and leave the field. |
| “Could not delete the module.” or “Could not delete the lesson.” | The module or lesson was not deleted on the server and appears again. | Try again. |
| “Could not reorder the modules.” or “Could not reorder the lessons.” | The new order was not saved and the list goes back to the saved order. | Drag again. |
| “Could not save the lesson changes.” | You tried to duplicate, paste or open View as student with a failed lesson save. Nothing is duplicated or pasted and the preview does not open. | In the lesson status bar, select Try again and repeat when “All changes saved” appears. |
| “Could not undo the change.” | The server did not accept Undo or Redo. | Try again. If it continues, reload the page: the Undo history starts over. |
| “This course has reached the 100-module limit.” | When duplicating or pasting, the course would go over 100 modules. Nothing changes. | Delete the modules you no longer use or create another course. |
| “This module has reached the 200-lesson limit.” | When duplicating or pasting, the module would go over 200 lessons. Nothing changes. | Paste into a module with fewer lessons or split the module in two. |
| “This course has reached the 500-lesson limit.” | When duplicating or pasting, the course would go over 500 lessons. Nothing changes. | Delete the lessons you no longer use or create another course. |
| “What you copied no longer exists.” | When pasting, the lesson, module or course you copied from has already been deleted. | Copy again from a course that exists. |
| “Could not paste.” | The paste failed. The builder shows the course as it is saved. | Try again. |
When uploading a file or importing a video
These messages appear inside the block. To bring in a video from another site, the Video block has the External video mode, with the address field and the Import video button.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Upload failed” | The file was not uploaded to the block. The message does not say why. | Try again. If it fails again, see the article on file upload errors linked at the end of this section. |
| “Use a direct HTTPS link to a supported video file.” | The address does not start with https://, points to a private network or does not open a video file. The format is recognized by the content of the file: MP4, MOV, 3GP, WebM, MKV, OGG, AVI or MPEG. | Use the address that opens the video file itself, not the page where it appears. |
| “For YouTube or Vimeo, use the YouTube / Vimeo option.” | The address is a YouTube or Vimeo video. | Switch the block to YouTube / Vimeo and paste the address there. |
| “The video is too large or there is not enough storage space.” | The video is over 2 GB or is larger than the free space in your storage. | Free up storage space or use a smaller video. |
| “Another video is already being imported. Wait for it to finish.” | You can only import one video at a time. | Wait for the current import to finish and try again. |
| “The video could not be imported. Check that the link opens the video file directly.” | Any other failure, for example the video server did not respond, the download took more than 4 minutes or you made more than 3 imports in 10 minutes. | Check the address and try again later. |
To free up space, see “Storage limit exceeded”: how to free up space. For other file upload errors, see Can't upload or attach a file. If the video was saved but the lesson shows “Video unavailable”, see “Video unavailable” in a lesson: causes and solutions.
When unpublishing, deleting or changing the sales settings
These messages appear in a notice or in the banner under the course bar. They protect clients who have already paid or are paying.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “This course has active purchases.” | When unpublishing or deleting a course that has a paid or disputed purchase, or a subscription that has not ended yet. | A paid purchase counts until it is fully refunded, and a subscription until it ends: until then, the course cannot be unpublished or deleted. To stop selling it, on the Page tab, turn off Online sales and select Publish changes. |
| “The price and billing can't change while this course has active subscriptions.” | When publishing the Page with a different price, sale mode or billing frequency, while the course has subscriptions that have not ended yet. | Keep the price and the billing. You can only change them when the course has no subscriptions in force. |
| “The previous checkout is still closing. Try again shortly.” | A client is in the middle of paying for this course and you try to unpublish it, delete it, publish a change to the sale or the visibility, or save the Enrollment limit or the Prerequisite. The place stays reserved until the payment finishes, for up to 25 hours. | Wait for the payment to finish and try again. |
| “Online payments are unavailable.” | You turned on Online sales, but your Stripe account stopped being ready to receive payments after you opened the page. | Reload the page. On the Page tab, the Stripe notice shows Configure payments: select it and finish connecting Stripe. |
| “Add a course name.” | You saved the Page with an empty name. | Write the course name and save again. |
| “Could not save.” | The Page was not saved, with no specific reason. | Try again. |
| “Could not unpublish” | The server refused without a known reason. | Try again. If it continues, contact support. |
For refunds and the access of people who bought, see How a course sale works, from purchase to refund. For price and billing, see Sell a course online: one-time purchase, subscription and price. To connect Stripe, see Connect Stripe to receive online payments from clients.
When enrolling and managing clients
These messages appear in a notice on the course's Students tab.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Publish the course before enrolling students.” | The course is not published, or the account is in read-only mode. The sentence is shown in a box on the tab and the enroll buttons are inactive. If the course was unpublished while the page was open, it appears in a notice when you enroll. | Publish the course with Publish, in the course bar. In read-only mode, see the Plan and account section first. |
| “This course has reached its student limit.” | When you enroll a client or select Resume access, the course would go over the Enrollment limit. Clients with active access count, and so do places held for purchases and subscriptions in progress or in dispute. | Raise the Enrollment limit in the course Settings, or pause the access of anyone who no longer needs it. |
| “1 client not enrolled: prerequisite incomplete”, or the same notice with the number of clients | The course has a Prerequisite and that client has not completed the required course yet. The other clients are enrolled. | Wait for the client to complete the required course, or change the Prerequisite in Settings. |
| “This access comes from a purchase and cannot be removed here.” | You tried to remove, pause or set an access end date for a client who bought the course, with the Purchased tag. | Purchased access only ends when the purchase is refunded. |
| “This access is managed by a subscription and cannot be removed here.” | You tried to remove, pause, resume or set an access end date for a client with subscription access, with the Subscription tag. | Access follows the subscription in Stripe. To remove it, the subscription has to be cancelled in Stripe. |
| “This purchase needs to be reviewed by support.” | When enrolling a client who has a disputed purchase or subscription for this course. | Contact support with the name of the course and of the client. |
| “The previous checkout is still closing. Try again shortly.” | When enrolling a client who has a subscription to this course, in force or being paid. | Wait for the payment to finish and try again. |
| “Cancel the unfinished purchase?” | This window opens when you enroll a client who started buying the course and did not finish. | Select Cancel and enroll: the purchase is cancelled and the client is enrolled without paying. If it cannot be cancelled, “Could not cancel the purchase. Try again shortly.” appears and the client is not enrolled. |
When opening a course
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Course not found”, with “This course no longer exists, or it is no longer available to you.” | The course was deleted or the address is wrong. | Select Back to courses. There is no screen to restore a deleted course. |
| “Could not load the course”, “The course editor could not be loaded.” or, in the list, “Could not load” | The course or the course list did not load, for example with no internet connection. | Select Try again, also on the Students tab. |
| “Could not load the settings.” | The course Settings did not load. The message appears in the banner under the course bar. | Select Settings again, in the course bar. |
For loading error cards, see “We could not load this information” and other error cards.
General errors
These messages can appear in any action in courses.
| Message | When it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Some fields are missing or have invalid values.” | The server refused a value, for example an Enrollment limit of 0 in Settings, where the minimum is 1, or a text longer than the limit. | Fix the value and save again. To have no limit on enrollments, leave the Enrollment limit empty. |
| “We could not find this course. It may have been deleted or republished.” | The course, or the client's enrollment, no longer exists, for example because it was deleted in another browser tab. | Go back to the course list and open the course again. |
| “Something went wrong on our side. Try again shortly.” | The server could not complete the action. | Try again in a moment. |
| “No connection to the server. Check your internet and try again.” | The request did not reach the server. | Check your internet connection and try again. |
| “An error occurred” | A failure without a message of its own, in the course list, in Settings or on the Students tab. | Try again. If it continues, contact support. |
If the server still does not respond, see Server temporarily unavailable or too many requests in a row. With no internet, see “You are offline”: what to do on the web.
If this did not solve it
Copy any text that was not saved yet, reload the page and try again: some messages come from a page opened before the course, the plan or a payment changed. If the message continues, contact support (see Contact Support and create a request) and send:
- the name of the course;
- the exact message and where you saw it, for example in the banner under the course bar or in the lesson status bar;
- a screenshot;
- the approximate time.
