Change the text size in the app

For clientsAppUpdated on

In the MyFitnessClient app, you choose from five text sizes in Appearance, under Settings, and see the result straight away in a sample sentence.

By default, the app is set to Automatic and follows the text size you chose on your phone. The other four sizes are fixed and only apply inside the app.

Before you start

  • Text size only exists in the app, on iOS and Android. The website does not have this option.
  • Your choice is saved only on this phone: it does not carry over to your account or to other devices, and it stays when you sign out.
  • If you cannot find the Text size card in Appearance, update the app to the latest version.

Steps

To change the text size:

  1. Open the menu with the button in the top-left corner. On a tablet with the app in full screen, the menu is already in view.
  2. At the bottom of the menu, tap your name or your photo, with Profile and settings under your name.
  3. In Settings, in the Preferences group, tap Appearance.
  4. In the Text size card, tap the size you want: Automatic, Small, Normal, Large or Extra large. The chosen size gets a tick and the app’s text changes straight away.
  5. Check the size in the sample sentence, between the card title and the list of sizes: “Great workout today. Tomorrow we do mobility and 20 minutes of cardio.” In each row of the list, “Aa” shows the letters at that size.
  6. Go back with the back button, in the top-left corner.

The text changes to the chosen size on every screen of the app, and your choice is saved on this phone.

The sizes

The fixed sizes are measured from Normal, the app’s base size, and ignore your phone’s text size.

SizeLetter sizeFollows the phone
AutomaticYour phone’s size, with the limits in the next section. This is the default size.Yes
Small0.94 times Normal, never under 11 points.No
NormalThe app’s base size.No
Large1.12 times Normal.No
Extra large1.35 times Normal. The easiest to read.No

How Automatic works

  • It follows the text size in your phone’s settings, both up and down. If you change it on your phone, the app switches to the new size without you having to reopen it.
  • Reading text, such as paragraphs, lists, fields and messages, grows up to 2 times Normal.
  • Titles, buttons and the top bar of each screen only grow up to 1.35 times, the same as Extra large, so they still fit on the screen.
  • When reading text goes past 1.35 times, whatever a row showed to the right of its title, such as a label, a price or a count, moves under the title. Some blocks that sat side by side are stacked one under the other.

What follows the size and what stays the same

  • In Large and Extra large, and in Automatic with large text on your phone, the value a row shows next to its name, such as the language and the theme in Settings, moves under the name.
  • Icons next to text, in lists, buttons, fields and menus, grow and shrink with the text, up to 1.35 times.
  • The names in the tab bar, at the bottom of the screen, and the icons in the bars always stay the same size, whatever the option.

Questions

Why don’t the buttons grow as much as the text?

In Automatic, with your phone set to a very large text size, reading text reaches 2 times Normal, but titles, buttons and the top bar stop at 1.35 times. Any bigger, they would no longer fit on the screen.

I chose Normal and the app stopped following my phone’s text size. Why?

Small, Normal, Large and Extra large are fixed and ignore your phone’s text size. For the app to follow it again, choose Automatic.

Can I change the text size on the website?

No. Text size only exists in the app.

I changed phones and the size went back to Automatic. Why?

Your choice is saved only on the phone where you made it and does not carry over to your account. On the new phone, choose the size again in Appearance.

Where do I change the light or dark theme?

On the same Appearance screen, in the Theme card. See Change the theme: light, dark or system mode.
