A new version of the app is available. Please update to continue.

For clientsAppUpdated on

When the MyFitnessClient app asks for a new version, update it in your phone's app store and continue. It also explains the optional “Update your app” window.

The MyFitnessClient app has two new-version notices. The message “A new version of the app is available. Please update to continue.” stops you from continuing until you update. The Update your app window is only a suggestion, which you can postpone.

When each notice appears

  • The message “A new version of the app is available. Please update to continue.” appears in place of a screen's content or as a form error, for example when you sign in. It happens when the installed version is older than the minimum that MyFitnessClient accepts, and it keeps coming back until you update. The message has no button to the store.
  • The Update your app window, with “New version available”, appears on the Home screen when a newer version than yours already exists. Update now opens the MyFitnessClient page in the store and Not now closes the window. You can keep using the app without updating.

Before you start

  • An internet connection and access to your phone's app store.
  • Updating doesn't delete anything: you stay signed in and keep what is saved on your phone, including records waiting to send.
Deleting the app and installing it again is not the same as updating: you have to sign in again and you lose the records that haven't been sent yet.

How to update

To update the app:

  1. Open the app's page in your phone's app store. With the Update your app window open, tap Update now; without the window, open the store and search for the app by the name it has on your phone.
  2. In the store, update the app and wait for the update to finish.
  3. Open the app again.

The message stops appearing and the app loads your data again, with you still signed in.

Common problems

“Could not open the store. Please try again shortly.”

This message appears in the Update your app window when your phone can't open the store. Tap Update now again in a little while, or open the store yourself and search for MyFitnessClient.

I tapped “Not now” and the window came back

Not now, or tapping outside the window, postpones the suggestion for 24 hours, even if you close the app or sign in with another account on this phone. After that time, the window comes back until you update. Update now also postpones it for 24 hours, so it doesn't come straight back if you return from the store without updating.

I don't see the “Update your app” window

The window only appears on the Home screen, with the app open and online, after 2 seconds on that screen. It doesn't appear with a workout in progress or minimized, or with the menu, a tutorial or another window open. The app checks for a new version at most once an hour while it is open. In your professional's branded app, the window doesn't appear, and in an old version of the app it may not exist. In any of these cases, you can update through the store.

The message is still there after updating

Close the app completely and open it again. If the store still shows an update for the app, install it.

If the sync banner shows records “to review”, tap it. In Records waiting to send, a record the server refused while the app was out of date shows this message and stays saved on your phone. Tap Try again or, if the record has Resolve, follow Record “to review” or “The server did not accept this record”.

Questions

Can I keep going without updating?

With the Update your app window, yes. With the message “A new version of the app is available. Please update to continue.”, no: it keeps coming back until you install the new version.

Do I always have to update through the store?

No. Some fixes reach the app on their own, without going through the store. Bigger changes need the store version, and the message only goes away with it.

If this did not solve it

Write to [email protected] with your phone model, the system version, your account email and the exact message you see on the screen.
